Unblocking bottlenecks by helping turn insights into action

As an HR, P&C, or OD leader in Council, you’re tasked with the critical role of creating a culture that views the big rock challenges as opportunities. A culture that enables Council to find a way to create thriving communities against all odds. A culture where people feel engaged, motivated, and empowered to make a real difference.

As an expert in your field, you already know the value of giving your people a voice, listening to their feedback, acting on it, and making them feel heard and involved in shaping the direction of Council.

But gathering insights is one thing. We often hear from councils that turning them into actions is another. They feel like they’re sitting on a wealth of insights but there’s a bottleneck sitting between insight and action. Their people start to disengage, seeing their feedback as ‘box ticking’ rather than driving actual change. And Council misses the opportunity to reach its full potential as a result.

Sound familiar? We hear you.

It all starts with right-sizing your approach

There isn’t a one-size-fits-all solution. Every council is unique, and your path to improvement needs to reflect Council’s own objectives, challenges and available resource.
For some, an all-encompassing employee engagement survey provides the big-picture snapshot Council needs to fully inform their planning cycles.
Others find a more focused approach with condensed question sets based on priority areas enables them to right size the actions down to an achievable number they can commit to implementing within a given time period.

However you set yourselves up, ensuring you have the capacity to show your people their voices have been heard, valued and acted on is vital.

Breaking the bottleneck
Link Voices to the Vision

Data can be daunting right? So distil it down into digestible stories that anchor back to the challenges Council is looking to address. It’s easier than you think if you have a clear vision and the tools in place which can slice and dice the data to uncover these stories.

Don’t leave them hanging

Keep your people in the loop by circling back on key themes and next steps as soon as you can.
Find the quick wins and put them in place. It sends a clear signal to your people that their voices have been heard and are valued.

The weight of turning insights into action can't sit squarely on the shoulders of HR / OD / P&C teams. Not without creating a bottleneck. Empower Council leaders to take accountability for driving outcomes by providing them data they can digest, and the tools they need to take action.
