Tamworth Regional Council didn’t have a streamlined approach to incorporating employee feedback into their long-term strategic plan and employee value proposition. By implementing AskYourTeam’s employee and community insights platform, Council is embedding a culture of continuous improvement, streamlining reporting, and have achieved an 83% participation rate in the June employee engagement. The result? Increased trust, actionable insights, and visible outcomes that have transformed workforce engagement.

Overcoming low trust and disjointed approach to feedback

Tamworth Regional Council struggled with consistently gathering meaningful feedback from all employees in a streamlined way, particularly their outdoor workforce. A number of their people were sceptical that their input would lead to meaningful change, and the council needed a reliable platform to bridge this gap and build trust.

Paul Bennett, General Manager, explained “We wanted a solution we could embed into our everyday business activities—not something used every few years and then forgotten. We needed a system that provides regular, consistent staff feedback to track our progress toward our goals”.

Without a system to engage all staff and translate their feedback into action, this was a significant roadblock.

Embedding a continuous feedback cycle

Tamworth Regional Council adopted AskYourTeam to capture and act on feedback. Natasha Beer, Manager People and Culture, shared,

“Seeking feedback and engaging with both our employees and the community is essential for us. In addition to our original objective of employee feedback, AskYourTeam also offered numerous modules to support this - from customer service engagement to integrated planning, reporting, and service reviews - unlocking future significant potential for our organisation.”

The platforms ease of use and robust reporting capabilities enabled the council to analyse results swiftly and share actionable insights with their teams. Sally Collison, People and Culture Project Specialist, emphasised, “The platform's ability to generate reports for us made our lives much easier. It allowed us to track results, process them quickly, and deliver timely feedback to our staff”.

High participation and tangible outcomes

Tamworth Regional Council achieved an impressive 83% participation rate, engaging employees across indoor and outdoor roles. This widespread involvement provided them with valuable insights to drive meaningful action towards their goals and deliver on their commitments, as well as putting some quick wins on the board.

Sally explains, “One of the key ways we achieved this was through quick wins. Using the AskYourTeam system, we identified actions we could address quickly, building trust and momentum before tackling the bigger, more complex items.”

Natasha goes on to say, “The integration of the AskYourTeam feedback system into results and then actions has been incredible for us. It has streamlined our approach, allowing us to understand what people think, be strategic about our next steps, and monitor progress to ensure we follow through on our commitments.”

Tamworth Regional Council’s experience with AskYourTeam has been transformative. Paul praised the platform, saying

“The use of the software to get the results we wanted has simply been outstanding. I think it’s the best platform in the market, and I encourage any other local authority to use it.”
