Hauraki District Council (HDC) discovered they were performing below the industry benchmark in a few culture-related areas. They wanted to make more informed decisions based on reliable insights from all their people, rather than just those more vocal employees, in order to drive meaningful improvements.

Comprehensive data to pinpoint the issues

By using the AskYourTeam platform, HDC captured unbiased, actionable insights from the entire workforce. “With a 92% participation rate, it really shows that it’s a reliable source of data and not just the opinion of a few squeaky wheels” says Julie Sweeney, HR Manager. The platform allowed them to slice and dice the data, pinpoint the biggest issues, and focus their resource on actions that would make the biggest difference. These insights led to HDC creating a new reward and recognition philosophy that became a key part of their total rewards strategy. Results also enabled executives to make strategic decisions, while team leaders could act on insights relevant to their teams.

Measurable improvement and sustained progress

With a clear baseline in place, HDC tracked the results of their reward and recognition initiatives over time. “From the data, we can see sentiment is improving and this helps us to endorse what we’re doing, showing that we’re having a positive impact on our employees and teams,” Julie adds. This data-driven approach not only enhanced outcomes but allowed HDC to demonstrate and validate the progress, delivering ongoing cycles of continuous improvement.
